There's several moments in this book I want to hug and squeeze the two of them, they are so adorable and loving even in the midst of horror and tragedy. Bennett nails the relationship dogs have with their families. What makes this book is the relationship between Jesse and her dog, Sandor. After all, how could animals talk without voice boxes? Even the animals in the book discuss it. And that's fine, if if was explained, it would probably sound hokey. One day all animals become sentient, no one knows why, the end.
